1. Info and Updates

2. SEACRC Update: Judy
Judy has written the layoff notice for Kieu Tham, clerk for the Center. We would need another $1500 per month to keep her. June 30, 2003 will be her last day. After that …there will be no more circulation of materials. If we are able to hire Kieu back in the future, we could possibly do so on a “consultant” basis, on the basis of funds available.

3. Where do we go from here?
a. The Kit idea was discussed. The kits would be based around themes that meet the Social Science standards, and could be tied in with science models: it all could be related to local populations such as Hmong, Mien, Russian etc.
b. The website is being revitalized and is going to at www.reninc.org
c. The Kits could be available on the website for consideration and checkout. CSUS graduate students could process the Kits.
d. The website will contain teaching pages and past issues of Context.
e. Hosting fees will become an issue as the site grows.
f. REN has $5000 from the Sacramento Regional Foundation. $1000 has already been spent. The remaining money can be used to pay for the work of Senh and Justin to reconfigure the website.
g. The website will be useful to teachers, parents, the community, and students
h. The website will help with reading comprehension: Community stories and experiences can be substituted for similar parallel concepts such as Pocohontas and Ishi.
i. At REN meetings, members could look at “stuff” to go on the site.
j. Judy will meet with Justin and Senh and will contact the Sacramento Regional Foundation to revise the grant slightly.

4. We have a volunteer who is contacting potential donors. We need a new description page for him to use. Lorie offered to work on this.

5. Exercise of choosing 5 things to go into a Kit. Each member presented their collection and how it would work as stimulus for school lessons.

6. The question of how to advertise the kits brought a suggestion of an Open House, a Collaborators’Lunch, and/or a Donors’ Lunch. Some suggestions of collaborators were: Unity Council, ISPAS, CSUS: Equity Council and UCD.

7. Meetings were set for the 2003-04 school year: September 26, November 21, January 23, March 26,
and May 28. These are 4th Fridays. Anita moved to accept the dates, and Lue seconded. All voted in favor.

8. A meeting was set for June 16 to consider the Kits and the Website redesign.

Next meeting September 26, 2003 First meeting for the school year: Be There!!!
